Sub:- Unique Client Code. 
1. Please refer to SEBI Circular No.SMDRP/Policy/CIR-39/2001 dated 
July 18, 2001 on the captioned subject. The said circular, 
inter-alia, mandated that the brokers would be required to furnish the 
particulars of their clients to the stock exchanges/clearing corporations 
and the same would be updated every quarter. 

2. It is felt that the systems for furnishing and recording such 
client details have now stabilized and that the period for updating such 
codes should now be shortened. It has, therefore, been decided to call for 
such details as prescribed in the aforesaid circular on a monthly basis. 
Such information for a specific month should reach the exchange within 7 
working days of the following month. The stock exchanges shall follow up 
with the members to ensure that all of them comply with the requirement 
and take necessary action in case of non-compliance.

3. The Stock Exchanges are directed to 

3.1. make necessary amendments to the relevant bye-laws, rules and 
regulations for the implementation of the above decision immediately, as 
may be applicable.

3.2. bring the provisions of this circular to the notice of the member 
brokers/clearing members of the Exchange and also to disseminate the same 
on the website.

3.3. communicate to SEBI, the status of the implementation of the 
provisions of this circular in Section II, item no. 13 of the Monthly 
Development Report for the month of October 2003.

4. This circular is being issued in exercise of powers conferred 
under Section 11 (1) of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 
1992 to protect the interests of investors in securities and to promote 
the development of, and to regulate the securities market.
